Video Review Sheet

1996, BBC Horizons, color, 52 minutes

Summary
The video examines Native American concerns about the treatment of human remains from those claimed to be their ancestors. Responses range from outright rejection of archaeology to cooperation with archaeologists on tribal projects. The views of archaeologists are also exmained, with explanations of the types of research conducted on human remains and the benefits derived from them. One successful project between the University of Nebraska and the Omaha tribe is presented, interviewing anthropologist Karl Reinhard and Omaha tribal historian Dennis Hastings. Also of interest is a segment on Iowa's successful burials law.

A full transcript of the video is available as is the Repatriation and Reburial web site with many other materials related to the topic.
