About our approach
Several people have asked about our "tone" on these pages which is a bit mocking. We do this to call attention to problematic nature of many of the pseudoscience beliefs dealt with on the web site. Most of these "mysteries" have perfectly sound scientific explanations. Though belief in many of the pseudoscience explanations has little ill effect, some can cause serious problems in terms of our nation's science education, already in serious trouble. As well, much of this material detracts from sound scientific research. We don't in any way believe that science "has all the answers," but it is an effective, proven way of "knowing" about the world around us.
